Understanding COVID-19 Infection Prevention Measures Following the Declaration of a State of Emergency

To all students of Hiroshima University,

Makoto Iwanaga, Vice President of Student Support

Currently, COVID-19 infections are spreading rapidly and the government has declared a state of emergency in Hiroshima Prefecture, effective from May 16 until May 31.
In response to this, HU will set its activity guidelines to Level 2 (exercise caution and partial restrictions), which includes classes, from May 17.
Even within the university, there has been an increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19. Nationally, COVID-19 variants have been spreading, with a high proportion of people in their 20s being infected.
According to a survey conducted by the Public Health Center, the main cause of the outbreak is thought to be group activities in situations where it may be difficult to take sufficient infection prevention measures, such as mask wearing and hand washing. For this reason, students should not gather in large groups to prevent the further spread of infection until the situation has improved. Please make sure you are fully up to date with the latest information on COVID-19, so that you do not become infected and do not spread it to those around you.
Although you may want to spend time with your classmates and friends, we ask you to continue practicing self-restraint and to refrain from activities that carry a high risk of infection, such as eating out with people other than those that you live with, karaoke with classmates and friends, travelling, eating, drinking, or staying over at friends' houses.
Please remain aware of the risk of becoming infected with COVID-19, and continue to act with caution to prevent the spread of infection.
