Important notes in choosing "non-English foreign language courses"
February, 2024
This page provides instructions and important notices when you choose non-English foreign language courses you wish to take in the page named "Survey on registration for foreign language courses" of UCARO.
Please carefully read the matters shown below and "Reference for Selecting a Second Language Subject" included in Student's Guide to be issued in February, 2024, before registering the courses.
※Please note that students of the Department of Integrated Global Studies, School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, are required to access and complete the form using the QR code or URL provided in the Student's Guide.
・Please choose two different language courses you wish to take (excluding English)
・Please be aware that you may not be registered in your desired language courses if there are any errors of required information or mistakes such as selecting the same language.
・If you choose French, German, Chinese, Korean or Spanish, please also choose whether or not you would like to take the intensive language courses(*).
*Intensive language courses are intended for students desiring further study of the foreign language they chose, offering four (4) classes a week along with the basic foreign language courses.
*Depending on school/department you are enrolled in, a choice of "No" can be only selected in this survey. However, even if you answer "No" in this survey, it will be possible to take the intensive language courses by following the prescribed procedure during the course registration period after entering the university.
・As for the admitted students in schools/departments that regard the basic language courses as optional subjects to take, if they would not like to take non-English foreign language courses, please choose "I will NOT take any language courses because they are optional." However, the admitted students in the Program of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, are required to take the non-English foreign language courses. Also, if the admitted students in School of the Medicine Program of Health Sciences take non-English foreign languages courses, the credits can be counted as the requirements for graduation.
・For international students, the Japanese Language/ Japanese Affairs subjects offered by Morito Institute of Global Higher Education can be treated as equivalents to non-English foreign language subjects in some schools/ departments. If you wish to take the Japanese Language/ Japanese Affairs subjects, please select "I will NOT take any language courses because I am an international student who will take ONLY Japanese language courses.". Please note that you need to apply for a Japanese language placement test administered by Morito Institute of Global Higher Education before taking the Japanese Language/ Japanese Affairs subjects. For more details, please ask the support office of your school/ department.
See the appendix below. In addition to the basic foreign language courses, students will be required to take either "Basic English usage" (which is one of the English courses and requires the registration after enrollment)" or "Intensive foreign language". Therefore, if you wish to take the intensive foreign language courses, please make sure to choose "希望する" in the survey. In that case, however, Arabic and Russian are not allowed to select. |
