Handling of Domestic Remittances for Non-resident Customers

Handling of Domestic Remittances for Non-resident Customers

Article 17 of the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act requires banks to confirm that

foreign exchange transactions conducted by non-resident customers do not fall under

the category of regulated transactions, etc.

In order to ensure the fulfillment of the confirmation obligation, Japan Post Bank will,

in principle, treat domestic remittances by non-resident customers as international

remittance starting from May 6, 2022.

For this reason, the handling locations and fees for some domestic transfers made or

received by non-resident customers will be the same as those for international transfers.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause to our customers; we appreciate

 your understanding and cooperation.

The handling of remittances made by non-resident customers and remittances whose recipients are non-residents will be changed as follows.
Remittance from your account (to Japan Post Bank and other bank accounts)
The remittance will be handled as an international remittance.
Cash remittance
●Telegraphic transfer (payment in cash without a payment slip)
We do not accept payments from non-resident customers or payments to non-resident customer's accounts.
●Normal payment (payment with a payment slip)
We do not handle this as an international remittance, but we can only handle the payment in cash at the counter.

Please ask Japan Post Bank for details.
