Expected Outcome1. To be able to think about peace from multiple perspectives and express their own opinions.
2. To understand and be able to explain various factors that prevent peace and the complex aspects involved, including conflicts between ideology and reality. 
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
By understanding the political and social issues surrounding Okinawa and their structure, students will consider what "Peace" means. The first half of this course will deal mainly with themes related to the Battle of Okinawa, covering the situation of the ground battle, post-war reconstruction, inheritance of the war experiences, and the relations of these themes to the military base problem. To understand the situation Okinawa finds itself today and to think about solutions, the second half of this course will examine the historical background of the post-war problems surrounding the Okinawa military base and other issues related to US military bases around the world.

Through learning about the political and social issues surrounding Okinawa and their structure, think about what 'Peace' is.
 
Requirements  
Grading Method Assessment is based on: reflection comments submitted after each class (50%), submission of "My Approach to Peace" report (40%), class participation (10%). Students who fail to submit the report on "My Approach to Peace" will not be awarded credits.

Message "The Pursuit of Peace" is one of the five guiding principles of Hiroshima University. We hope that through taking this course you will develop your own ideas about "Peace". 
Other You are required to submit a report entitled "My Approach to Peace" as a common assignment for Peace Science Courses. When you fail to submit the report, the credits will not be awarded.
【Period of the report submission】
The 1st term course--> from April 30th to May 13th
The 2nd term course--> from July 1st to July 8th
The 3rd term course--> from October 28th to November 7th
Night program course--> Follow teachers’ instructions
