Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The aim of this course is to develop students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge and skills for designing learning materials for primary and secondary education, grounded in curriculum design that responds to school practice. By reading and discussing major articles and books on theoretical and practice based research on learning materials in school education, students will deepen their understanding of learning material design in relation to curriculum planning in school practice.
In Class A (Yuka Nakai), the course focuses on learning material design in Japanese language education. Through reading key research and examining concrete teaching materials, students will engage in an iterative process of analysis, prototyping, and improvement. Based on each student’s interests (reading, writing, speaking and listening, language culture, expository texts, narratives, poetry, assessment, and related topics), students will scrutinise materials, articulate design intentions, and reconstruct them as learning materials. Each session builds design thinking through student presentations and dialogue.
