Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The aim of this course is to develop theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for designing learning materials for primary and secondary education, grounded in curriculum design that responds to school practice. Building on theoretical and practice based research on learning materials in school education, the course explores key issues and debates through lectures and seminars. In Class A (Yuka Nakai), we focus in particular on the conditions that enable learners to exercise creativity. Through an iterative cycle between theory and practice, students will design learning materials by starting from their own area of interest, clarifying how creativity is conceptualised in that area, generating and prototyping ideas, and improving them through presentations and peer critique. Short in class activities will be used to experience learning conditions directly and to refine prototypes step by step.
Class Schedule lesson1:Orientation: course framework and theme setting
lesson2:Organizing key concepts of creativity and defining your own inquiry
lesson3:Comparing learning conditions and articulating them in words
lesson4:Reviewing prior research and practical cases, building shared perspectives
lesson5:Core structure of learning material design and design trial
lesson6:Idea presentations and peer critique
lesson7:Creating a design blueprint for learning materials
lesson8:Mid course review and peer critique, deciding directions for revision
