/Class Outline
In this course, we will study Gottfried Keller’s cycle of novellas “Die Leute von Seldwyla.” Gottfried Keller was a Swiss author who used this anthology to portray his own country. In the course, we will interpret one of the most famous novellas, “Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe,” in detail. Afterwards, each student will be assigned a novella and will give a short presentation of approximately 5 to 10 minutes, which will serve as the basis for further discussion.
In addition, a film evening will be organized alongside the course, during which the film adaptation of Keller’s “Kleider machen Leute” will be shown. The aim of the seminar is to develop a deeper understanding of “Die Leute von Seldwyla” and to improve practical academic German language skills.
