Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course involves close reading of scholarly literature (in Japanese, Chinese, and English) on international relations in modern and contemporary Asia. Through this work, students will seek to understand the varying interpretations of “modernity” and the “Cold War” in the Asian context, as well as differences in the development of historiography across countries. At the same time, by organizing the historiography within their respective disciplines, students are expected to refine the research questions of their own projects.
Details of the syllabus and assigned readings will be determined and adjusted as appropriate in consultation with the participants.
