Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course deepens students’ understanding of key issues in the intellectual history of early China, while also cultivating skills in handling relevant classical Chinese texts and in the methodological approaches used to construct intellectual history. In the present academic year, we will examine various problems found in different chapters of the Liji (Record of Ritual), taking into account insights gained from excavated manuscript materials that have come to light since the latter half of the previous century. Although the course will be primarily lecture-based, each session will also include time for discussion among participants concerning the issues raised. |
