Lecture-Based: The aims of this class are to provide students with foundational knowledge in Special Needs Dentistry. A variety of video and clinical case will be incorporated to foster a concrete understanding directly applicable to clinical practice in special needs healthcare. In addition, special lectures delivered by leading experts from other institutions in Japan will be included to provide opportunities to engage with the latest knowledge and developments in the field.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline Students will acquire essential foundational and clinical knowledge regarding dental care for persons with disabilities and medically compromised patients, including various types of disabilities, systemic diseases, and their management.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it

Message This course is designed to provide appropriate dental care derived from the knowledge of other clinical dentistry to the special needs patients and medically compromised patients, taking into consideration the patient's background, i.e., the disabled and diseases. The lectures are directly related to clinical practice, so students are expected to thoroughly prepare for and review the lectures for the following clinical practice. All slides used in class are written in both English and Japanese. English is used not only for the benefit of international students, but also to improve the language skills of Japanese students in the field of dentistry.

Other In the special lectures, dental specialists (certified doctors of the Japanese Society for Disability and Oral Health) will give a broad lecture on how to deal with disabilities and basic diseases in actual clinical settings.
