Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the entire legal system of People's Republic of China. Specifically, the course will cover:
(1)Foundations of the Legal System: An explanation of the sources of law, the legislative system, the judicial system, and the legal profession (the framework of human resources supporting these systems), while providing comparisons with the Japanese legal system.
(2)Major Statutes and Case Law: An analysis of key laws—including the Constitution, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Civil Law, and Civil Procedure Law—through the examination of specific judicial precedents.
(3)Special Jurisdictions: An introduction to the legal system of Hong Kong, which is strongly influenced by English Common Law.

Submission of comment sheets is required after each lesson.
There will be one open-book examination.
After Lesson 15, you will be required to complete a final report on topics related to Chinese law.
