Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The biodiversity we observe today is the product of long-term adaptive evolution of organisms across diverse environments, and is recognized as having manifold values. However, biodiversity is currently under critical threat due to anthropogenic impacts. This course introduces the significance and current status of biodiversity, and explains the processes by which it is generated, the mechanisms by which it is maintained, and the methods by which it is assessed. The course also aims to provide students with an understanding of the concepts of conservation genetics and conservation genomics, which are essential for the appropriate conservation of biodiversity.
