Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The course teaches the methods of regional research through the stages of planning, conducting and analysing the results, with the theme of public space and public transport as a particular focus of regional revitalisation. The course focuses on work and field research. In principle, the course should be taken in conjunction with the regional survey exercise IB.  
Class Schedule 1~8 Field survey (3 days/2 nights)
In Hiroshima Prefecture, where the university is located, a survey will be conducted in Kurahashi-cho, Kure City, as an area that is depopulated and where active measures are being taken for U-turns and I-turns, to investigate the current issues regarding public space and public transport, and their future use, including mobility.
On site, interviews will be conducted with the local administration, civic groups and businesses, as well as participant observation.
Alongside these on-site experiences, guidance will be given on qualitative research methods as appropriate.
9 Reflection on field research
Sharing the results of their own research. Guidance on managing survey data.
10 Review of the field survey
Check the results of the survey for information needed for analysis and collect additional information if necessary.

Conduct quantitative analysis of the survey results
Provide examples of quantitative analysis, such as conversation analysis, text analysis and data analysis, and give specific guidance.

Review
Be aware of the importance of preparation before carrying out field research
Understand the perspective of the person being surveyed when designing the survey plan, questionnaire, etc. 
Requirements There will be a 3-day/2-night (planned for the beginning of December) field survey in early June. Participation is compulsory (actual participation costs are expected to be approximately JPY 20,000). 
Grading Method Mainly based on research plans, questionnaires and other submissions.
