Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course consists of lectures on ethical issues raised by the life sciences and medicine, along with discussions based on audiovisual materials. We will explore specific ethical issues in depth from multiple perspectives and examine their merits and demerits from an ethical standpoint.

Topics include organ transplantation, animal experimentation, abortion, cognitive enhancement, end-of-life care, informed consent, and reproductive medicine.

The goal is not merely to identify problems, but ultimately to develop one’s own considered position. Students are expected to engage with these issues self-reflectively and critically, clarifying the standpoint from which they approach them.

Preparation and
Review
Students are expected to conduct preliminary research on each topic in advance. Doing so will enhance the effectiveness of interactive discussions. 
Requirements Attendance at 10 or more classes is required to earn credit.
・Attendance will be recorded using an IC card reader.
・After each class, students must submit reflections or questions via Moodle.
・Students arriving more than 20 minutes after the start of class will be marked absent (though they may still attend).
・Students who leave class early without a valid reason will also be marked absent. 
Grading Method Final Examination: 100%

The final examination consists of multiple-choice and essay questions.
The multiple-choice section evaluates understanding of fundamental concepts in bioethics covered in the course.
The essay section evaluates students’ ethical reasoning skills and mastery of the specific issues discussed in class.
