Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course consists of lectures on ethical issues raised by the life sciences and medicine, along with discussions based on audiovisual materials. We will explore specific ethical issues in depth from multiple perspectives and examine their merits and demerits from an ethical standpoint.
Topics include organ transplantation, animal experimentation, abortion, cognitive enhancement, end-of-life care, informed consent, and reproductive medicine.
The goal is not merely to identify problems, but ultimately to develop one’s own considered position. Students are expected to engage with these issues self-reflectively and critically, clarifying the standpoint from which they approach them. |
