【Course Objectives】:
1.Introduction to Various Methods of Describing "Landscapes":
Exploring different approaches to landscape description as found in the works of Tsuneichi MIYAMOTO, Ryotaro SHIBA, Tetsuo TAKAHASHIi, Hiroshi WATANABE, Kazuto ATAKA, Yoichi OCHIAI, and others.

2.Overview of the Latest Research on "City/Town Walking Fieldwork": Examining key insights from Yusuke KITA's latest book, " Machi-aruki to Toshi no Yoso (in English: Walking and the Aspects of Cities: Deciphering the Totality of Spatial Experience)" (published by Kyoto University Press, 2023), including summary presentations based on assigned chapters.

3. Case Studies of "Landscapes" of Interest to Participants: Participants will introduce case studies of landscapes they are interested in, including oral presentations and Q&A sessions.
 
Class Schedule Lecture Theme: Narrating and Describing "Landscapes," The City as a Museum

Session 1: Introduction:
Explanation of the course structure and an overview of the central question: "What is a landscape?"

Sessions 2–3: Introduction to Various Methods of Describing "Landscapes":
Exploring different approaches by Tsuneichi MIYAMOTO, Ryotaro SHIBA, Tetsuo TAKAHASHI, Hiroshi WATANABE, Kazuto ATAKA, Yoichi OCHIAI, and others.

Sessions 4–10: Overview of Key Insights from Yusuke KITA’s Latest Book about City Walking (Kyoto University Press, 2023) :
● Previous research and research methods
● Examination of spatial aspects
● Case studies of description and analysis
● Mapping, etc.
,including summary presentations based on assigned chapters.

Sessions 11–14: Case Studies on "Landscapes" of Interest to Participants: Exploration of cities and museums (art museums, history museums, literary museums, etc.), including oral presentations and Q&A sessions.

Session 15: Final Examination (or Submission of Final Report): Essay Wroting.
