Class Objectives /Class Outline |
The objective of this course is to master the idea of time-series analysis, the method of data management for empirical research. For this purpose, this course practices PC programming software such as Matlab or Eviews. If time is available, students are required to make presentations of papers that are related to their master thesis. |
Class Schedule |
Statistical items in (1) to (9) below are presented and discussed. We will also learn how to program using Matlab in (11) to (14) below. (1)Introduction to statistics -- (2)Sample distribution -- (3)Probability and probability distribution -- (4)Uniform and normal distributions -- (5)Statistical significance and mean estimates -- (6)t distribution and chi-square distribution -- (7)Hypothesis testing -- (8)Correlation analysis -- (9)Regression analysis -- (10)Exam on Statistics -- (11) The basics of working with Matlab -- (12)Matrix computation by Matlab -- (13)Managing data with Matlab -- (14)Computation of maxima and minima by Matlab and implementation of regressive analyses -- (15)Exam on Matlab |

Suggestions on Preparation and Review |
Review is important to master PC software and programming. |
Requirements |
The enrollment of this course is restricted to students whose thesis is under my supervision. |
Grading Method |
Your grade will be determined based on the results of the test that assesses your knowledge of statistics and the test that checks your level of proficiency with Matlab. Each test contributes 50% to your final grade. |
