Class Objectives /Class Outline |
The objective of this seminar is to develop comprehensive skills for writing a master's thesis through the experience of policy process analysis.
More specifically, the seminar aims to provide participants with a broad but shallow experience of the entire research process—"reviewing prior studies," "interpreting materials," "analyzing data," and "presenting conclusions and implications"—in a simplified manner within a short period. This experience is intended to help refine their research plans for their master's thesis.
The specific subject matter will focus on policy decisions (or non-decisions) at the central government level in Japan. Participants will select a major public issue in Japanese politics since 2020 and, using sources at the level of newspaper articles, will write a report of approximately 5,000 to 8,000 words over the course of one semester. |
