Review
To consider and understand the relationship between the sea and our safe, secure, and peaceful lives on a daily basis. In particular, it is good to have an interest in knowledge and information about ships, maritime transport, the ocean, the environment, and international affairs, as well as the latest engineering technology, and to be aware of issues related to the ocean and maritime fields and the sustainable development of world peace.
Requirements The explanations will be in Japanese. However, the materials will be in both Japanese and English (Japanese and English side-by-side, with subtitles). The Japanese version may be introduced as supplementary materials. This course is part of global human resource education, so it is a good opportunity to learn in English.
Grading Method For each class, 70% will be based on reports and quizzes, 20% on assignments at the end of the content, and 10% on learning attitude and commitment. However, this may change depending on the evaluation situation. Late or dishonest reports will be handled strictly.
Practical Experience Experienced
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it In order to provide career guidance and role models in the marine and maritime fields, we will be conducting interviews and on-site filming with people working in major organizations in the fields of industry, government, academia, and finance, such as educational and research institutions, marine and maritime companies, government agencies, and others (banks, insurance companies), to introduce the actual work content in the marine and maritime fields.
Message Since its founding, Hiroshima University has been a leading educational and research center for marine and maritime affairs in Japan. This course provides a simple explanation of the importance, interest, appeal, and future potential of the marine and maritime fields that support the lives, safety, and security of people in Japan and around the world.

For Japan, surrounded by the sea on all sides, to achieve sustainable development in terms of industry, culture, and security, maritime traffic (a sea corridor through which people, goods, and information flow between land and sea) will become even more important in the future to realize a rich and peaceful life. On the other hand, Hiroshima is located almost in the center of the Seto Inland Sea, and while retaining a beautiful natural environment, it is a world-class peaceful city that is in harmony with the archipelago and has many urban functions, tourism, culture, and traditional facilities, as well as the development of marine and maritime-related manufacturing, shipbuilding, and shipping industries, and the maritime cluster of shipbuilding, marine industry, and shipping.
