Class Objectives
/Class Outline
Many physiological phenomena in animals are influenced by complex interactions between multiple organs within an individual, as well as interactions between different individuals. In this lecture, I will provide an overview of humoral factors that mediate inter-organ and inter-individual communication, discussing their functional significance in light of recent findings. Additionally, I will highlight how research using insects as model organisms has contributed to advancing this field.
Class Schedule Lesson 1: What is physiology? What is interorgan communication?
Lesson 2: The beauty and attractiveness of research using insects
Lesson 3: Inter-organ communication in nutritional response 1: Regulation of development
Lesson 4: Inter-organ communication in nutritional response 2: Nutritional homeostasis
Lesson 5: From inter-organ communication to inter-individual communication
Lesson 6: Mating as communication between conspecific individuals
Lesson 7: Symbiosis and parasitism as communication between different species
Lesson 8: The future of research on interorgan and interindividual communications

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it
Message Physiology is the branch of life sciences closest to us, exploring fundamental questions about what it means to be alive. Yet, many students find it boring, perhaps because it requires memorizing a large amount of information. Through this lecture, I hope to share at least a glimpse of the fascination that physiology holds.
Other
Please fill in the class improvement questionnaire which is carried out on all classes.
Instructors will reflect on your feedback and utilize the information for improving their teaching.
