Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course is aimed at providing the basic knowledge and understanding of Japanese politics, both domestic and foreign, in English for Japanese and non-Japanese students.  Domestic politics in Japan will be discussed in terms of its national as well as local institutions and their operation, while its foreign policy will be followed from the end of the last World War in its regional variables, directions and changes.  Multicultural coexistence in Japan will be also discussed in comparison with other countries'.   Students are expected to actively participate in the discussion that follows the lecture delivered by the instructors.

Term paper can be submitted at the end of the semester as an option by your own judgement based on the evaluation policy that will be provided at the introductory session.

No preparation is required, but reviewing the lessons through checking distributed handouts or notes taken is recommended.

Grading Method The levels of participation in the discussion will be considered for evaluation.  Either presentations by the students at the class or term papers will be required for evaluation.
