Class Objectives /Class Outline |
Course Goals and Themes Starting from sports as an activity that anyone can engage in, this course aims to identify social issues, pursue solutions, and bring about social transformation through entrepreneurship. Furthermore, it seeks to cultivate an understanding of the thought processes and actions related to leadership and management, which are essential for ensuring the practical realization of such initiatives. The ultimate goal is to equip students with the comprehensive skills necessary to sustain their leadership and remain at the forefront of this field autonomously and continuously, even after completing the course.
Course Overview Moving beyond the idea of sports as a personal recreational activity, this course explores how sports and related fields can be leveraged to address various social challenges in the "here and now." The course adopts a multidisciplinary approach, considering sports management from multiple perspectives. Through the lens of effectuation in entrepreneurship, students will examine the essential aspects of leadership, management, and the legal and economic considerations involved in launching and running an organization. While the course encourages students to begin by analyzing their immediate surroundings, it also emphasizes the recognition of grand challenges currently facing both Japan and the global society. Students will explore the need for transformative innovation—a comprehensive approach to social change—rather than simply reacting to emerging issues as they arise. The course will introduce the concept of anticipatory governance, which involves constructing future scenarios and using them to proactively shape a better world. Ultimately, students will learn how this approach is becoming increasingly essential in the field of sports management today. |
