Class Objectives /Class Outline |
In this course, we will mainly deepen our understanding of religion, politics, and society in the Middle East and Islamic countries, and examine the relationship between religion and society, and between religion and politics. Middle Eastern and Islamic countries have been transformed in various ways through the establishment of modern state systems and the progress of globalization. Through this course, students will first learn basic knowledge about Islam, and then examine the background, causes, and future issues of various contemporary problems (sectarian conflicts, “terrorism” issues, wars, conflicts, refugee issues, economics, ethics, multiculturalism, etc.), and enhance their ability to explain the aspects of the situation there. |
