The workshop will be held as one of the program components of the "Inter-University Exchange Project: Japan-U.S. Global Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)." Based on the "knowledge of generative AI" and "information, data, and AI literacy" acquired in the e-START (COIL Collaborative Learning Program) component prior to this workshop, a joint team of students from Japan and the United States will learn how to utilize AI in the real society and to plan solutions to social issues using AI. (Participation is possible even if you have not taken e-START course) 
Class Schedule Schedule: 8 days during summer holidays (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays)
Place: Hiroshima, Japan

Preparation lecture: lectures on basic knowledge about information, data science and generative AI
Day 1 Ice-breaking, lecture on social conditions surrounding generative AI
Day 2 Lectures on information and data science, group work
Day 3 Lectures on AI application in various countries and Hiroshima Prefecture, group work, Japanese cultural experience
Day 4 Peace study (A-bomb survivor’s personal account, participation in the Peace Memorial Ceremony, etc.) Group work
Day 5 Lecture on semiconductors, group work
Day 6 Group work, visit to AI/semiconductor-related companies
Day 7 Lecture on generative AI governance, group work 
Day 8 Group work, final presentation

Specifically, the plan is to present assigned books and other materials that will help students gain the knowledge they need for lectures and group work. 
Requirements Individuals cannot register for courses. After the student application period (from May onwards), the Global Initiatives Group registers students who have been selected through a screening process based on written documents (in principle, around 10 students). 
Grading Method Attitude shown during lectures (20%), approach in the group presentations and overall contribution (40%) and final report (40%).

The course will be a valuable opportunity for students to realize the significance of international exchange and to connect it to their professional studies and further studies abroad. We look forward to the participation of all motivated students. 
Other Those who have a minimum TOEIC score of 680 can participate. The students will need to communicate with students and academic staff from the United States in English during the workshop period. They will also be required to use English during class.
