Class Objectives /Class Outline |
The objectives of this course are to (1) Understand the nature and origin of minerals and rocks and how to evaluate those properties. [Yokoyama] (2) Understand how the water-rock reaction and mass transport proceed and how those processes are quantitatively evaluated by numerical calculations. [Yokoyama] (3) Understand geology and biogeochemical processes in aquifers. [Saito] (4) Understand material transport and sediment formation in coastal zones, and environmental problems in coastal subsurface zones. [Saito] |
Class Schedule |
lesson 1: Introduction / Overview of the Earth's constituents [Yokoyama] lesson 2: How to examine rocks: electron microscope, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) [Yokoyama] lesson 3: Specific example of water-rock reaction: weathering of granitic rocks [Yokoyama] lesson 4: Dissolution and precipitation of minerals [Yokoyama] lesson 5: Permeability of rocks and image analysis of pore structure [Yokoyama] lesson 6: Diffusion and its programming [Yokoyama] lesson 7: Aquifer geology [Saito] lesson 8: Biogeochemical processes in an aquifer [Saito] lesson 9: Material transport to coastal zones [Saito] lesson 10: Formation of coastal sediments [Saito] lesson 11: Environmental problems in coastal subsurface zones [Saito] lesson 12: Underground resources and energy utilization [Saito] lesson 13: Presentation about report [Saito] lesson 14: Formation of iron rust and change of rock color [Yokoyama] lesson 15: Presentation about report [Yokoyama] |
