The Special Study in Mathematics Education B discusses and considers recent practical and theoretical esearch theme on secondary schoool mathematics education and mathematical understanding to have the required knowledge and ability to make a plan for improving students' performance in mathematical understanding in secondary school level. 
Class Schedule Lesson 1: Orientation
Students understand the aims and outline of Special Study in Methodology in Mathematics Education.
Lesson 2: Area and methods of Methodology in Mathematics Education
Students understand the area and methods of teaching school mathematics.
Lesson 3: Practical issues in teaching school mathematics
Students review practical research on methodology of teaching school mathematics in secodary level.
Lesson 4: Theoretical issues in teaching school mathematics
Students review theoretical prior research on methodology of teaching school mathematics in secodary level.
Lesson 5: International theoretical issues in teaching school mathematics
Students review international theoretical research on methodology of teaching school mathematics in secodary level.
Lesson 6: Mathematical performance of junior high school students
Students collect survey data on students' performance and analyze them to identify issues.
Students examine theoretical or practical prior research on methodology of teaching mathematics and identify the research method.
Lesson 7: Mathematical performance of senior high school students
Students collect survey data on students' performance and analyze them to identify issues.
Lesson 8: Mathematical Understanding from Japanese perspective
Students understand mathematical understanding through reading and analyzing theoretical and practical papers in Japan.
Lesson 9: Mathematical Understanding from international perspective
Students understand mathematical understanding through reading and analyzing international theoretical and practical papers.
Lesson 10: Theoretical research on mathematical understanding
Students proceed to theoretical research on mathematical understanding.
Lesson 11: Components of process model of mathematical understanding
Students think about components of process model of mathematical understanding to overcome secondary school students' difficulties in understanding mathematics.
Lesson 12: Practical research on mathematical understanding
Students proceed to practical research on mathematical understanding to overcome secondary school students' difficulties in understanding mathematics.
Lesson 13: Evaluation methods of mathematical understanding
Students think about the evaluation mathods of mathematical understanding to overcome secondary school students' difficulties in understanding mathematics.
Lesson 14: A plan for improving junior high school students' performance in mathematical understanding
Students make a plan for improving junior high school students'  levels of understanding mathematics.
Lesson 15: A plan for improving senior high school students' performance in mathematical understanding
Students make a plan for improving junior high school students' levels of understanding mathematics.

For lesson 1 through 5, collect previous theoretical and practical studies on teaching mathematics and read them carefully.
For lesson 6 and 7, collect survey data on students' performance and analyze them carefully.
For lesson 8 through 13, collect previous theoretical and practical studies on understanding mathematics and read them carefully.
For lesson 14 and 15, make a plan for improving secondary school students' levels of understanding mathematics. 
Requirements This Special Study is required for Teacher' License for Mathematics in Secondary School level.
Students of Educational Design for Teacher Educators Program (Mathematics Education Major) 
Grading Method Students to be assessed by report assignments (80%) and final examination (20%).
