This course is designed to help students understand and examine the interaction between literature and society mainly in the UK and America, focusing on the genre of travel writing.  This year we will take up some well-known European and American travel writing in comparison with Japanese one and learn about the differences of the styles, themes or media of their narratives. The texts and topics discussed in class may be slightly changed according to the interests of students.
