This class aims to understand basic international law. International Law has been established with varied sources and covers many issues. This While it is still developing, some find that international law is not effective in some cases. In this class, we will learn legal theories and apply them to the case studies. 
Class Schedule Class 1 What is international law?
Class 2 Recognition of a state: Kosovo, Cremia, Palestine, Taiwan
Class 3 Individuals in international law, jurisdiction and immunities: Human Rights, Humanitarian Law, International Criminal Law
Class 4 International Courts and Tribunals
Class 5 Use of force and the UN system (1)
Class 6 Use of force and the UN system (1) self-defence
Class 7 Nuclear management and disarmament
Class 8 Critical understanding of international law

Requirements Please do not skip the first class if you consider registering the course. If you cannot come to the first class and wish to register, please talk to the teacher before registration. 
Grading Method Contribution to dicussion 30; term paper 70. A 1200-word essay on a topic of international law, referencing and citing external academic sources.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it Dr Kakee has worked for the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations as an adviser (legal expert) and her experience will provide knowledge about daily practice at the UN.
