Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objectives of the course is (1) to learn various activities of peacebuilding; (2) to understand the evolution of peacebuilding theories; and (3) to deepen the understanding of peace through reflection on peacebuilding.
The course covers a number of areas/issues in peacebuilding, which presents potentials, effects and challenges of peacebuilding activities. Each conflict has its own features and thus one-fit-all approach is not the solution in peacebuilding. However, learning the efforts and discussion in the area to date would prepare us in tackling the newly arising situations.

Literature specified for each class should be read before the class. From the 12th to 14th lessons, students are required to make a presentation on a case study or a particular theme of peacebuilding. The class will discuss the presented ideas to exchange different views. 
Requirements Class language will be English.
In principle, students are required to register for this course together with 'Peacebuilding II'.  
Grading Method Assessment based on proactive participation in discussion and a presentation in the class, and a short term-end report 
Practical Experience Experienced  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it I have experiences in a UN peacekeeping operation as well as peacebuilding in an international organisation. On topics related to peacekeeping and peacebuilding, my comments will include the perspectives of a practitioner.
