This course provides a clear and comprehensive introduction to the study of corporate social responsibility (CSR).  It also promotes students to understand, critique, and discuss some key ideas and issues relating to CSR. It may be required for students to have basic knowlege and assumptions that are shared in Western countries including Japan.   CSR has some root from the Ancient Greek civilization including democracy and the freedom of speech.

Requirements This course has been registered for the Phoenix Leader Education Program for Renaissance from Radiation Disaster.  Therefore, the students in this program are very welcome.  Many contents in this course are closely related to social scientific aspects of Fukushima disaster case.  If the students of the Phoenix Leader Education Program for Renaissance from Radiation Disaster and exchange students are registered in this course, only English is used for any activities.

Message The contents and academic standards in this course accord with the mission statement of Hiroshima University that has aimed to be a globally recognized research university in Times Higher Education's World University Rankings.  Therefore, the lingua franca in this course is English.  The instructor in this course welcomes many foreign students who have a good command of English.   The students of Phoenix Leader Program and exchange-students from Europe who took this course before did very well in this course regardless of their majors.   Two quizzes will be given in-person at Higashi-senda campus.  Thus, if students will not be able to come to Higashi-senda campus, they are not eligible to register this course.

Nobuyuki Chikudate, Ph.D., the instructor of this course, received 2019 Emerald Literati Award for his co-authored journal article and ONE-Kedge Unorthodox Paper Award, Academy of Management 2016 Conference, Anaheim, U.S.A. for his single-authored academic paper. He has also been active in publishing in many journals that are registered in Web of Science, Scopus, Clarivate Analytics, Google Scholars, and others.
