We will discuss what to read and read English (or other) articles. We will also take some field trips. Each participant will make one or more presentations during the course.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The class explores the various aspects of the history and culture of the relationship of Hiroshima and the Chugoku Region to East Asia in an attempt to construct an image of historical experiences with people in these areas through methods including field trips. Students will study modern exchanges of people and goods between Japan and East Asia and participate in field trips to learn about the history and cultural exchanges of the islands in the Inland Sea of Japan. Next we will learn about the modern history of Hiroshima as a military city and source of emigration, and delve into the memory and historical experience of the city in the Asia-Pacific War, including the atomic bombing. Field trips will visit and discuss the port areas of Kure and Ujina. Student interest in the issues will deepen through participants inspiring one another. This class is connected to Lecture on history and culture A. Participants have to take both classes basically.

lesson 3: History of the traffic of both people and things between Japan and other parts of Asia in the modern era (2)
lesson 4-6: Field trip(Suo-Ohshima etc.)
lesson 7: Modern history of Hiroshima in relation to other parts of Asia
lesson 8: Memories and historical experiences of the Asia-Pacific War (1)
lesson 9: Memories and historical experiences of the Asia-Pacific War (2)
lesson 10: A Critique of Postcolonial Reason (1)
lesson 11: A Critique of Postcolonial Reason (2)
lesson 12-14: Field trip(the ports of Kure and Ujina area)
lesson 15: Summary and report writing

  100-90% →S(秀=Excellent)
 89-80% →A(優=Very Good)
   79-70% →B(良=Good)
   69-60% →C(可=Fair)
   BELOW 59% →D(不可=Fail)
