Class Objectives

Seminar will focus on writing about historical events in the postwar period. The purpose of the course is to develop the ability to understand Japanese modern history, especially the history and culture of contemporaneous history, from a relative perspective. The format of the class will consist mainly of close reading and discussion of texts. Students will learn how to deal with contemporaneous history as an academic discipline, which is indispensable for the study of " Japanese studies" from various perspectives, paying attention to the closest history to understand the " present" and incorporating an international perspective.
