Class Objectives /Class Outline |
Through long-term internships with private companies, public institutions, non-profit organizations, and others both domestically and internationally, we aim to contribute to addressing corporate and societal challenges while fostering practical skills development and expanding career options. The internship period is typically one month or longer, and credits are awarded for long-term internships primarily focused on the following dispatch destinations:
1. Internships based on the university's unique list of host organizations (including paid internships). 2. Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) Job-type Research Internship (paid internships lasting two months or longer).
Additionally, as needed, we may explore internship opportunities beyond those listed above based on students' preferences and provide matching support. |
Class Schedule |
The program is expected to proceed with the following steps.
(1) Internship Guidance and Consultation Sessions (Monthly, October-November) Attendance is open to all, regardless of enrollment in the course. After providing an overview of the process and information regarding companies and procedures capable of accepting long-term internships, we will be available to address any inquiries or concerns. The schedule of events is posted on the following site, and we kindly request registration at least one week prior to the session. *The guidance may be held at other occasions as well. [Registration for the Guidance] https://x.gd/4rUhZ (2) Preliminary Counseling Schedule a meeting with a Career Advisor (including primary and secondary advisors) through the Young Researchers Portfolio (HIRAKU-PF). Discuss internship opportunities with the Career Advisor. Enhance self-awareness and clarify the purpose and objectives of the internship. (3) Internship Application Preparation and Matching with Host Organizations (Ongoing) Receive guidance from the Career Advisor, prepare necessary documents such as a statement of intent, and engage in preliminary negotiations with potential host organizations. (4) Pre-Dispatch Screening and Interview If there are no issues with the preliminary negotiations, a pre-dispatch screening will be conducted by the primary or secondary advisor (or an alternate examiner if necessary). Each prospective intern will deliver a brief presentation lasting approximately 5 minutes to review internship plans and objectives. (5) Following the pre-dispatch screening and interview, necessary procedures for dispatch will be completed. Due to variations in requirements among host organizations, careful attention must be paid to required documents and procedures. Additional documentation or interview assessments may be conducted by host organizations. (6) Practical Training (Minimum one month) Regular progress reports to the assigned Career Advisor are required during the internship. Dispatch must conclude by the completion of the doctoral program. (7) Preparation and Submission of Final Report A final report must be submitted upon completion of the internship. (8) Post-Dispatch Screening and Interview (Ongoing after completion of internship) Post-dispatch screening will be conducted by the primary or secondary advisor (or an alternate examiner if necessary). Each intern will deliver a brief presentation lasting approximately 10 minutes to discuss internship outcomes, progress towards objectives, insights gained, etc. (9) Course Registration and Grading Registration for this course will be processed by the Global Career Design Center once dispatch for the internship is confirmed; no action is required from the student. If the expected end date of the internship is around the end of February 2025, registration for the "Long-term Internship" course for the second term will be processed. If the expected end date of the internship is later, registration will be processed for the following first term "Long-term Internship" course. |
