Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The process of socialization occurs by accumulating experiences within social structures such as schools, workplace, family and locality. Through these experiences, people may have occasion to take a team leader position, or to exercise leadership. In fact, most of the time, people acquire how to exercise leadership by learning-by-doing. Although leadership theory exists in the field of management, in this course, we opt for a broader sense of leadership, and provide to the participants the occasion to experiment “leadership” as a preparation for entering to the real world. What does it mean to exercise leadership? Starting from this fundamental question, we will attempt to extract what could be considered as essential in leadership, based on the cases proposed by the participants and simulation. Also, we will discuss on their experience of exercising leadership in their research laboratory, if any.
