This course is one of the elective subjects in the category of "Sustainable Development Courses" for Common Graduate Courses. This category of courses aims to provide opportunities for students to understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by an international agreement. It also aims to equip students with the ability to advance science to enable sustainable development and the ability to solve various challenges in society.

Hiroshima University, established in the city that experienced the atomic-bombing, puts up the banner of spirit of seeking peace. In this course, with bearing in mind of the perspective of "Hiroshima and Peace" and the gap between ideals and realities, we will overview "Peace Studies"; contemplate the issues such as factors inhibiting peace, war and outlawing war, nuclear weapons issues, and disarmament/non-proliferation; and explore the ideal state of peace and approaches to achieve it through critical thinking.

Grading method: The online final exam (80%) and attitude to participation (20%). Details of the final exam and other issues will be explained in class.
