This course focuses on the study of global issues and future challenges, which all AIMS & PEACE member states are concerned. All international students who came to study in Hiroshima University through AIMS and PEACE programs are eligible to take this class.

lesson2: 1st Mid-term Presentation: (25 minutes each: 15 minutes presentation & 10 minutes Q & A and advising)
lesson3: 1st Mid-term Presentation: (25 minutes each: 15 minutes presentation & 10 minutes Q & A and advising)
lesson4: 2nd Mid-term Presentation: (25 minutes each: 15 minutes presentation & 10 minutes Q & A and advising)
lesson5: 2nd Mid-term Presentation: (25 minutes each: 15 minutes presentation & 10 minutes Q & A and advising)

Learning Outcomes:

1 Students should be able to describe the basic concept and background of one’s own topic of research to general audience.  

2 Students should be able to discuss current phenomena and some issues based upon one’s research which was guided by one’s advisers both in home and host university.

Since the majority of class presentations are done by students, printed materials should be distributed to classmates by each presenter prior to the class. All students are expected to read the assigned reading material prior to the student presentations.

Review
Workload: 3 credits =3 credits in UCTS=4.5ECTS = 135 hours of student workload [An estimated total amount of workload is 140 hours]
1. Class Hours:   4 academic hours x 8 times = 32 academic hours
2. Homework: [1] Create presentation material (2-3 pages long handout and10-15 power point slides) for each presentation. (15 hours [on average] x 3times= 45 hours)
3. Presentation: Students will present their own topic of independent study. Each presentation should be around 15 minutes long. (3 hour practice of one’s presentation x 3 times =9 hours)
4. Final Paper: There will be one final paper (Approximately 10 page paper [4000-5000 words & double spaced in A4 size papers] with appropriate references) for this class evaluation. (Time for a literature review and writing the paper, 50 hours)
5. Preparation:   Student groups have to prepare for the “SDGs Student Seminar” (4hours)
 
Requirements Instructional Language: Mainly in English
Required English level: TOEFL-PBT/IT 500,TOEFL-iBT 61,   TOEIC 590
Attendance policy: If you skip one class, you will lose 3% from your final grade (100%). In other words, if your miss more than 3 classes, your grade will drop one level.  However, absences may be excused by an authorized letter or form from other professors, doctors, or any governmental officers.   
Class Size: 18 students*
All international students who came to study in Hiroshima University through AIMS and PEACE programs are eligible to take this class.
