By analyzing linguistic facts of Japanese and other languages from a linguistic perspective, the goal is to acquire basic knowledge and ideas of linguistics and to grasp a general picture of Japanese grammar.

Review
No prior study or prior knowledge is required, except in the case of assignments given in advance. It is important that students tackle the questions posed in class seriously, learn how to think linguistically in the process, and feel a sense of wonder or serendipity when they are surprised by the freshness of the conclusions and knowledge obtained in the course of the discussion. No preparation is required, so please review the handout posted on moodle after class.

The course is also open to general students, including Japanese students, who are interested in the content described in this syllabus. However, depending on the circumstances, we may not be able to accept the course.
