The language used in this class is Japanese. In this class, we will learn about the composition and writing of scientific articles based on Move analysis. Together, I will show you how to find appropriate English expressions using the Life Science Dictionary Corpus. This class uses Japanese for discussion. |

lesson1, Types of paragraphs; types of research papers The typical research paper consist of Abstract, Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Discussion (called IMRAD). IMRAD is a kind of template for writing scientific papers. Each section has a certain pattern, which we call Moves. constant writing. Also, there are principles in how to make paragraphs that make up them, so learn it. lesson2, Structure of English sentences (phrase, clause and sentence structure) Learn the basics of how to assemble English sentences and how to analyze them. lesson3, Types of papers ( (Moves for Introduction) Each section of IMRAD has a certain pattern, which we call Moves. Introduction consists of three Moves. First of all, the authors should introduce subjects and fields, and describe the importance of the research. Next, we extract problems from previous studies and introduce a new idea of research, which make the study unique and valuable. Finally, the authors will introduce the contents of this research. lesson4, Moves of Discussion Discussion consists of 3 Moves. Outline of results, examination of individual results, and conclusion (summary) are presented. lesson5, Word type (how to use corpus) The Life Science Dictionary (http://lsd-project.jp/en/index.html) is an online dictionary that anyone can use freely. The English collocation search can be a powerful tool for the writing of papers. lesson6, Construction and formatting of Abstract The general composition of Abstract is "Background, Objective, Method, Result, Conclusion", but there are various patterns to show what you did in the study. lesson7, Moves for Results The way of writing Results is slightly different depending on the field, but there are common parts. Learn typical patterns and characteristics of Results. lesson8, Correspondence between Introduction and Discussion When making a story of a thesis, it is necessary to first decide the conclusion and make Introduction correspondingly. lesson9 lesson10 lesson11 lesson12 lesson13 lesson14 lesson15
