Class Status within
Liberal Arts Education
- Through the history of the semiconductor industry, learn about global business trends and prospects, and think about your own career.
- Learn about Micron & Industry's diversity initiatives and the current state of developing autonomous human resources who can play an active role internationally at Micron's base in Higashi-Hiroshima.
Expected OutcomeTo understand the origins and future development of the semiconductor industry, which continues to grow, and to have the opportunity to think about one‘s own career image that can play an active role in the industry autonomously.
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
- Understand the outline of cutting-edge technology business
- Understand industry's examples of how to make the most of diversity and see and hear models of what kind of talent can play an active role and how.
- Consider career development on a global scale, not limited to expertise and Japan
Class Schedule Classes will be conducted by combining lectures and group discussions.
Specifically, lectures will be given in the 1-2 period, and group discussions on the content of the lectures will be given in the 3-4 period.

lesson1 Guidance and outline(6/7)※No class will be held in the 3-4 period.
Introducing the purpose, content, and expected results of this lecture, etc. (Including the purpose and significance of expanding the number of students to students other than those majoring in semiconductors, and this lecture held at Hiroshima University.)

lesson2 How to create a career that transcends expertise(6/14)
Learn about the knowledge and skills required by society beyond specialized knowledge. Introducing the diverse jobs and occupations of various people in the semiconductor ecosystem company group (focusing on the ecosystem to create an image that diverse human resources can play an active role, raising the image of women and other diverse people playing an active role, and promoting initiatives for well-being) (Includes an introduction to the richness of life in Hiroshima and other regions).

lesson3 Group discussion(How to create a career that transcends expertise)(6/14)

lesson4 How to Pursue a Global Career(6/21)
Learn the inevitability of shaping your future career not only in Japan but also on a global scale, and what “a global perspective” is (including introducing role models at Micron to become autonomous workforce).

lesson5 Group discussion(How to Pursue a Global Career)(6/21)

lesson6 Information Utilization in the Semiconductor Industry(6/28)
Learn about cutting-edge DX in semiconductor companies. Introducing case studies of cutting-edge DX utilization and ideas (e.g. VR operations) including Micron and other companies. (Including the use of cutting-edge DX to solve technical issues through basic knowledge of semiconductor memory).

lesson7 Group discussion(Information Utilization in the Semiconductor Industry)(6/28)

lesson8 Diversity in business and society(7/5)
Learn the concept and importance of "diversity" (specifically Diversity, Equity/Equality and Inclusion (DEI)), which is an essential concept in global and Japanese society and business. Understand why diversity is necessary in society and business. Moreover, learn about the efforts of companies (such as Micron and Tokyo Electron) to achieve this. Learn about the existence of "unconscious bias" that is behind this, how to recognize unconscious bias in those around you and within yourself, and how to overcome it to achieve diversity and a better society.

lesson10 Trends in the semiconductor business (1)(7/12)
Learn about the prospects of cutting-edge technology business and global industry trends from the history of the semiconductor business. Specifically, the whole scale of the semiconductor industry (the entire ecosystem including device manufacturers such as Micron, TEL, and other suppliers), diversifying applications, and an introduction to end users. (The topics include the origins and changes of the semiconductor business and technology, technological innovation and its impact from the perspective of equipment suppliers, requirements for semiconductors from a business perspective (quality, power consumption, speed, etc.), and demand-supply balance of semiconductors related to the spread of AI).

lesson11 Group discussion(Trends in the semiconductor business (1))(7/12)

lesson12 Trends in the semiconductor business (2)(7/19)
Introducing world trends, Japan's position and challenges, and changes in the presence of Japan's changing industry (including the ecosystem) as a domestic and international comparison, and the positioning of the semiconductor industry in this context, and the importance of demonstrating the value of Hiroshima University. We will also touch on its significance (including avoiding geopolitical risks, utilizing Japan's ecosystem, strengthening supply chains centered on semiconductors, and the Japanese government's industrial promotion strategy) .

lesson13 Group discussion(Trends in the semiconductor business (2))(7/19)
