The "Advanced Seminar" will be held to give students opportunities to practically utilize their comprehensive knowledge to create new value and solve problems in society, based on their learning in the "Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students". It is designed for students to cultivate problem-finding and problem-solving skills through the study and discussion of cutting-edge topics and hands-on learning in small classes that transcend school and grade boundaries, and to develop challenge, presentation, and leadership skills. 
Expected OutcomeIn combination with the "Introduction to University Education" and the "Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students", students are expected to:
1. Form an independent learning attitude
2. Improve their problem-finding and problem-solving skills
3. Improve their logical and critical thinking skills
4. Improve their reading comprehension, expression, presentation, and discussion skills
5. Improve their communication and leadership skills 
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The course will include a reading of selected overview books and new books written for the general public on the Nara and Heian periods. Selection of texts will be based on the interests of the students. Students will learn the perspectives of academic historical research and deepen their interest in ancient Japanese history through presentations by students and discussions among faculty and students. Students will also acquire the basis for deepening their knowledge and thinking through their own research on topics of interest by writing reports.

Read the text carefully and think about the points and questions beforehand to attend the class. 
Requirements In order to emphasize small-group discussions, the maximum number of participants will be limited to six, and if there are too many applicants, a drawing will be held. 
Grading Method Students are responsible for organizing and presenting the contents of the textbook, participating in each discussion, and submitting a report as a minimum requirement. Evaluation will be based on the content of the report and the student's positive attitude. Evaluation will be on a pass/fail basis only, and will not be on a 5-point scale.
