The "Advanced Seminar" will be held to give students opportunities to practically utilize their comprehensive knowledge to create new value and solve problems in society, based on their learning in the "Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students". It is designed for students to cultivate problem-finding and problem-solving skills through the study and discussion of cutting-edge topics and hands-on learning in small classes that transcend school and grade boundaries, and to develop challenge, presentation, and leadership skills. 
Expected OutcomeIn combination with the "Introduction to University Education" and the "Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students", students are expected to:
1. Form an independent learning attitude
2. Improve their problem-finding and problem-solving skills
3. Improve their logical and critical thinking skills
4. Improve their reading comprehension, expression, presentation, and discussion skills
5. Improve their communication and leadership skills

In this class, you observe sleep EEGs during all night, and discuss about  new problems and solusions of modern society concerning sleep.  
Class Schedule lesson1  Orientation meeting (online)
lesson2  Attachment of electrodes (1.5h)
             Pre-sleep questionnaire (0.5h)
             Sleep EEG monitoring (7.5h)
             Post-sleep questionnaire (0.5h)
             Detachment of electrodes (0.5h)

After sleep EEG monitoring, you have to submit a report about sleep.

Preparation and
Review
Before participating sleep EEG monitoring, read books about sleep, and deepen your knowledge about sleep. 
Requirements 1. Sleep EEG monitoring will be carried out at School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Higashi-hiroshima Campus during summer vacation.
2. You have to stay awake all night during sleep EEG monitoring. To prevent any accidents, you have to go home by taxi.
3. Class capacity is 5 students. To select students, you have to submit your motivation to attend this class within approximately 100 words.
4. In order to  prepare for unexpected conditions, you have to buy Comprehensive Insurance for Students Lives Coupled with "Gakkensai". 
Grading Method You have to participate all the followings,
1. Orientation meeting
2. Sleep EEG monitoring during all night
3. Report about sleep
Evaluation will be on a pass/fail basis only, and will not be on a 5-step evaluation.
