The purpose of this class is to deepen students' understanding of contents and things that need to be considered in a curriculum designed for the education of children with hearing impairments, focusing on the evaluation of hearing and the basics of the psychology of people with hearing impairments.

Lesson 2: Causes and characteristics of hearing impairments (Hayashida)
Lesson 3: Structure and function of hearing aids and cochlear implants (Hayashida)
Lesson 4: Support for parents who have deaf children (Hayashida)
Lesson 5: Educational institutions for children with hearing impairments (Shinkai)
Lesson 6: Language and communication concepts in deaf education (Shinkai)
Lesson 7: Reality of education for hearing-impaired children (1):  Considerations in instruction (Shinkai)
Lesson 8: Reality of education for hearing-impaired children (2): Autonomic activities (Shinkai)

Review
Students will learn new contents, so they are expected to review each class. Any questions will be welcomed. Lesson 1-2: Understand features of hearing and hearing impairments. Lesson 4: Understand anxiety of parents who have a deaf child. Lesson 5: Search for materials relate to teaching guidelines and educational laws. Lesson 6: Understand features of language acquisition and communication of people with hearing impairment. Lesson 7-8: Understand features of teaching for children with hearing impairment. 
Requirements This is a mandatory class in Kyouiku Shokuin Menkyo Hou (Teacher's license, especially for special needs education teachers) (Category three) 
Grading Method Students will be evaluated comprehensively based on commitment to lectures and assignments (20%), and a writing exam or a report (80%).
