Class Objectives

A goal of this class is to understand fundamental technologies on information and communications, and their applications. We focus on concept and trend of the technologies about LAN (Local Area Network) and TCP/IP. 
Class Schedule Lesson 1: Overview, Fundamentals of computer networking
Lesson 2: Analog or Digital communications
Lesson 3: Signal format for LAN, Transmission medium
Lesson 4: Media access control for LAN
Lesson 5: Protocol layer and network architecture
Lesson 6: IP(Internet Protocol)and IP address
Lesson 7: IPv4 and IPv6
Lesson 8: Format of IP datagram, outline of IP routing
Lesson 9: Associating IP address and MAC address, ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol)
Lesson 10: Routing Protocol
Lesson 11: TCP and UDP
Lesson 12: Other transport protocols
Lesson 13: DNS (Domain Name System), HTTP (Hyper Text Transport Protocol)
Lesson 14: Application Protocol
Lesson 15: Summary of the class

Final exam will be carried out.

Lectures from lesson 2 to lesson 4 are about LAN (Local Area Network).
Lectures from lesson 5 to lesson 10 are about IP (Internet Protocol) Layer.
Lectures from lesson 11 to lesson 12 are about Transport Layer.
Lectures from lesson 13 to lesson 14 are about Application Layer.
Read the textbook and other reference books about computer networks.

Grading Method Final examination: 60%, confirmation tests: 30% and active participation in classes: 10%.
