Class Objectives
/Class Outline
A survey and research is managed with collaboration from the researchers and/or facilities inside or outside the university on each subject decided independently by the students. Students acquire science literacy and problem-solving ability, and they practice research management through critical thinking.
Class Schedule At the beginning of April: A guidance is held to explain the purpose of this class, its procedure, and its schedule. Information about research management is provided by the coordinators. The students start to collect information by having an interview with tutors or professors.
Middle of May: Students make a proposal in a proper format and submit it to the office. When preparing the proposal, the student must complete an application form consisting of scientific issues, purposes, characteristics, and a research plan.
In any case, the applicant will receive various supports and assistance from the coordinator, tutor, or professor. Therefore, it is necessary for the applicant to explain concretely the overall image to be proposed.
Beginning of June: The submitted proposal is examined by the relevant researchers. The examiner accurately gives an evaluation and some comments to the applicant.
The student must follow up on the examiner’s comments. It is expected that the proposal content improves after the reconsideration.
Beginning of July: The resubmitted proposal is examined for the second time, and then the result of the application is decided and notified to the proposer.
From July to September: Students start doing his/her research as according to the plan.
During Summer vacation as well, they carry out their plan with collaboration from the researchers and/or facilities inside or outside the university. This activity is defined as a research internship.
Coordinators, tutors, and professors cooperate with the students to introduce researchers or facilities and to arrange details of meetings.
November: A midterm presentation is held at Science symposium for High-School Student, Faculty of Science.
From November to February: The students continue doing their research according to the plan, and start to summarize the activities in one paper. Tutors, coordinators, or professors record the student’s activity in a portfolio.
Mid February: Poster session is held as a final presentation. The students present their own posters for 15 minutes to the participants who are their classmates, the students in a lower or higher grade, faculty staff, and professors.
