Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of Japan's public finance and economy through the analysis of data. Students will learn about the structure and systems of public finance, and verify trends using data. Additionally, the course will cover Evidence-Based Policy Making (EBPM), an area of recent interest, and explore initiatives related to EBPM in Hiroshima. 
Class Schedule The order and content of the classes, as well as lectures by guest speakers, are subject to change. We allocate time for accessing and analyzing data during class, so please bring your laptop PC.

In preparation for each session, please review the distributed materials in advance to grasp the flow of each lecture. After each class, examine more deeply topics that you are interested in, for instance, graphing data on your own.

4. Understanding the philosophical foundation of budget systems
5. Considering the significance of Evidence-Based Policy Making (EBPM)

8. Grasping the impact of social security on Japan's finances
9. Familiarizing oneself with the responsibilities of the Ministry of Finance

Requirements Completion of Fiscal Studies 1 is recommended before or concurrently with this course. 
Grading Method The assessment will be based solely on reports. Three reports, each carrying 50 points, will be assigned, and the final grade will be determined by the total points from the two highest-scoring reports. Additional evaluation criteria may be introduced.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it I worked at the Ministry of Finance as a researcher. My goal is to learn about the discussions surrounding Japan's financial and economic issues in the practical aspects of administration.
