Class Objectives
/Class Outline
To learn basic knowledge necessary for creative educational activities and management in school library, and to obtain deeper understanding of roles of school teacher librarians. 
Class Schedule Lesson 1 Demonstrate the outlines of lectures and viewpoints and relations to other subjects and conduct self-examination concerning the image of school libraries to show the ideal and issues.

Lesson 2 Demonstrate the concept of school administration and education providers perspective concerning school management to clarify the viewpoints of a position of school teacher librarian in schools.

Lesson 3 The issues of present school education and school library (1)

Lesson 4 The issues of present school education and school library (2) Focusing on fostering "zest for living," organize the issues of present school education and understand the principles and educational significance of school libraries, and also 3 functions of school libraries.

Lesson 5 Introduce the history of development of school libraries and the current situations. Overview the process of systematization of school libraries, and examine the current situations of school libraries from the statistic perspective and obtain deeper understanding pf the issues.


Lesson 6 Organize the regulations and other rules relevant to school libraries, focusing on school library law, and overview the establishment of school library law and its revision.

Lesson 7 Overview of measures taken by education administration related to improvement of school libraries, and its history. Lecture today's situations to clarify the administrative challenges.
Lesson 8 From a perspective of school libraries' facilities, equipment and educational environment, understand what facilities and equipment of libraries are needed today.

Lesson 10 Management of school library (2)Lecture the basic concept of school libraries and overview the position of school libraries within the framework of school management to obtain deeper understanding of school library administration. 【Announcement of assignment report 1】


Lesson 11 Duty and function of school teacher librarians (1)

Lesson 12  Duty and function of school teacher librarians (2) Overview the role content of school librarians and clarify their roles, concerning ones for school administration.

Lesson 13 Overview the roles of school librarians regarding composition of school library media,, selection, management and media collection of school library.

Lesson 14 Overview the objectives, contents, methods based on relations between school library activities and education plan to obtain deeper understanding of roles of school librarians.

Lesson 15 Lecture the challenges of school libraries, focusing on the issues of school libraries and mutual cooperation and establishment of networks among school libraries. While watching VTR related to efforts for ideal school library and review the course.

The class is lecture-style with utilizing provided materials along with the textbook. With 3 video screenings (Approx. 30 min, One video with a practical guide), Case study is conducted on 7 cases (without expository handouts) from DVD.

Preparation and
Review
Before the intensive course stars, you're required to know syllabus well and I recommend to you reading the reading thoroughly.
(Day 1)Lesson 1- Lesson 5 After the lectures, Question sheet is used and reference books are introduced. As for Question sheet, the questions are answered in the next lesson, after being organized.
(Day 2)Lesson 6- Lesson 10 After the lectures, Question sheet is used and reference books are introduced. As for Question sheet, the questions are answered in the next lesson, after being organized. Information about Assignment report 1 is provided, and encourage students to prepare for the 3rd day.
(Day 3)Lesson 11- Lesson 15 Through explanation about the points of Assignment report, students are expected to deepen understanding of the lessons, to get encouraged to make Assignment report based on each learning targets, and to get ready for the following 4 other subjects.
 
Requirements Only for students who aim to get teaching license.  Intensive course on Saturdays and Sundays, so always check the notice. Be punctual.   
Grading Method Report (2 Assignments), Submitted mini-report for relevant to attendance management
【Assignment report 1】 Through self-introduction to students as a school librarian, organizing its service contents, relations between school libraries and learning of children and hope as a school librarian, and considering its role and duty.
【Assignment report 2】 In terms of the significance and role of school librarians in school libraries, organizing from an assigned perspective and considering roles of school librarians in school administration.

Please note that the subject of mini-reports are likely to have a connection with the contents of videos and DVDs.
