Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objectives of “Western music history” are for students to acquire a firm grounding in Western music history by following the birth, development and transition of various major genres from Middle Ages to today, and to understand features of their styles and techniques. For better understanding and appreciation of the repertory, listening of as many works as possible will be included in the class. By referring to the background concerning general history, culture and thought, this course will also help students obtain a broader comprehension of Western music history.

4. Baroque music(2): Second half
5. Classical school music(1): First half

Review
Preparation : Students will be asked to read the textbook in advance. It is strongly recommended that students also read through scores and listen to recording sources of works related to the text.
Review : Students will be expected to review the pages of the textbook already learned, and to expand their understanding through their knowledge of other works of composers referred to in the class.  
Requirements  
Grading Method Grades will be evaluated for the most part on the final examination, combined with attendance and quiz scores.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it The teacher in charge of this class arranges a variety of music including contemporary music as well as popular music. Taking advantage of this knowledge, the teacher consider the characteristics of Western music from a professional standpoint.
