Class Objectives /Class Outline |
The objectives of “Western music history” are for students to acquire a firm grounding in Western music history by following the birth, development and transition of various major genres from Middle Ages to today, and to understand features of their styles and techniques. For better understanding and appreciation of the repertory, listening of as many works as possible will be included in the class. By referring to the background concerning general history, culture and thought, this course will also help students obtain a broader comprehension of Western music history. |

Preparation : Students will be asked to read the textbook in advance. It is strongly recommended that students also read through scores and listen to recording sources of works related to the text.
