Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The purpose of this course is to nurture the objective analysis ability regarding Japanese language from the students perspective, by using the grammatical items for beginners (second half) as the teaching material, following ""Japanese Grammar (3 semester).""
Focusing on expressions of sentence ends and syntax of complex sentences, we aim to learn the importance of attention to the differences with the synonymous expressions and thinking grammar in dialogues
Also we overview the points to remember on the occasion of teaching Japanese to non-native speakers of Japanese.
 
Class Schedule Lesson 1 Orientation
 Overview the grammatical items for the latter half of beginner's course, consider what kind of attention should be paid to them from a pedagogic grammar of Japanese perspective.
 Keyword: Sentence end expression, Complex sentence, Synonymous expression, Context
Lesson 2 Aspect (1) 「-teiru」
 Analyze the meaning of "-teiru" such as "Kii-teiru" , "taore-teiru", etc., focusing on the types of verbs and the difference from "-shita" and consider what is important for understanding of learners.
  Keyword: Aspect, Change verb, Intransitive verb, Transitive verb
Lesson 3 Aspect (2) 「-tearu」
 Consider the meaning and usage of "-tearu" such as "kai-tearu", "oi-tearu"", etc., comparing to "-teiru" and paying attention to differece between intransitive verb and transitive verb

Lesson 4 Modality (1) the expression of will
 Consider the meaning and the usage of ""-shiyou""(mood), comparing to ""-suru"", ""-surutsumorida.""
Also consider non-parallel relationship with ""-mashou.""

Lesson 5 Modality (2) Tentative expression (1)
 After overviewing ""tentative expression"" of Japanese, consider what  ""guess,"" represented by ""-darou"" and ""-kamoshirenai,"" is and how to introduce it.

Lesson 6 Modality (3) Tentative expression (2)
 Consider ""-youda (mitaida)"" and ""-(shi)souda""and ""-rashii"", etc., comparing to guess represented by ""-darou""

Lesson 7 Modality (4) 「-noda」
 Consider the meaning and the usage of "-noda," "modality of explanation," comparing to other expressions without "-noda", paying attention to the difference of meaning and the relations with negation and question.

Lesson 8 Voice (1) 受身
 受身文の意味・機能について、受身文の種別(直接受身、間接受身、非情の受身
など)、能動文との違い、談話的な機能などに注意しながら考える。

Lesson 9 Voice (2) 使役
 「-(さ)せる」という形式の構文および意味と用法の広がりを概観した上で、
ヴォイス体系の中での使役の位置づけ(受身・他動詞との関係)を考える。
 キーワード:許容の使役、他動詞と使役、意志性
Lesson 10 Voice (3) 受給表現
「-てあげる」「-てくれる」「-てもらう」の使い方について、学習者の誤用・
非用に注意しながら考える。
 キーワード:方向性、視点、人称
Lesson 11 Complex sentence (1) テ形による接続
 テ形による接続表現の多様性と構文的な特徴を概観した上で、類似表現(「-な
がら/-たまま」「-ので」「-たら」など)との違いを考える。
 キーワード:従属度、ナイデとナクテ、付帯状況
Lesson 12 Complex sentence (2) 条件表現
 「-と」「-ば」「-たら」「-なら」の使い分けを「-たら」「-ば」を中心に
概観し、学習者にとって難しいと言われる条件表現の学習の要点について考え
る。
 キーワード:仮定条件、事実条件、「裏の意味」
Lesson 13 Complex sentence (3) 逆接表現
  「-けど」「-ても」「-のに」を対象に、条件表現やテ形などと関係づけなが
ら、「逆接」の多様性と使い分けおよび学習上の勘どころについて考える。
 キーワード:前提、前置き、対比
Lesson 14 Summary (1)(Examination)
 Examination is conducted regarding explanation of abusage, synonymous expression, introduction example, etc.
Lesson 15 Summary (2)(Answer sheet return ・ Commentary)

Lesson 12 Notice ""ても"" is difficult than expected for learnsers
Lesson 13 Notice ""テ形自体"" doesn't have positive meaning. 
Requirements ・Limited to students who have taken Japanese Grammar (Lec) (Third semester) generally.
・This lesson can fulfill free credits of Japanese language teacher’s license. However, it is not recommended to take this lesson for that since it is a fundamental lesson for Japanese as a second language education.
・Students who have not taken this lesson cannot take Japanese Grammar(Sem) (Fifth semester)generally.

Message ・ This course will be very tough, because you are required to submit a certain assignment every week. You will be puzzled, If you take this course just aiming to get a credit for Japanese language teacher's certificate.
