All of them include deep content that cannot be covered in a limited amount of class time, but as is clear from the current “Social Studies” and “Civics” curricula, the curriculum incorporates the wisdom of ancient, modern, eastern and western philosophers to address social issues. There is a strong demand to utilize knowledge in solving problems, and therefore, it can be said that a background in the history of thought is essential for those aiming to become teachers of Social Studies and Civics.
The main pillar of this class is to study the essence of the history of Western thought and applied ethics, and from the perspective of comparison, the history of Eastern thought and the history of Japanese thought will also be reviewed. We aim to acquire the ability to research and develop teaching materials in social study education and ethics education (moral education).
