Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This lecture is related to the contents of technology subject and technical subject in secondary education. At the conclusion of this course, students are expected to understand the properties of materials especially metals, basics of mechanics of materials, material processing of metals and designing kills of mechanical elements.
Class Schedule 1st Part: Materials Science
1. Classification of materials and their distinct properties. Classification of materials processing (Fusion, Ductile and Cutting processes).
2. Physical properties of metals (stress, strain, hardness) and their evaluation method by Stress-Strain Curve.
3. Chemical properties of metals (crystalline structure, solid-solution, fusion-solidification phenomena and phase diagrams).
4. Strengthen technique of metals (crystalline defects and introduction to dislocation).
5. Ferrous metals.
6. Non-ferrous metals.
2nd Part: Introduction to metal processing
7. Processing accuracy and its measuring technique.
8. Hand processing (filing, lapping and screw cutting).
9. Fusion process.
10. Ductile process.
3rd Part: Introduction to Mechanics of materials
11. Fracture of metals. Strength of materials in tension and compression.
12. Strength of materials under share stress and bending stress.

Suggestions on
Preparation and
Review
There will be a homework at the end of each lecture. You have to hand in the homework at the beginning of next lecture. A small test for the review of last lecture is also done at the beginning of each lecture.
Requirements If you are absent from a lesson, you will be not be able to follow the following lessons.
Grading Method It will be evaluated by homework, small test and term-end examination.
Practical Experience Experienced
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it I have experiences of being mechanical design engineer in an industrial machinery company (in Japan), and being teacher in subject of mechanical engineering in Costa Rica as a member of JOCV (Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers). The classes in Costa Rica were conducted in Spanish. Thanks to these experiences, I can provide a wide variety of teaching materials fit for participants having distinct backgrounds and knowledge levels.
