Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this course is to deepen understanding of fundamental theories and today’s challenges of mathematics education through reading literatures about mathematics education in and outside of Japan and to cultivate abilities to search proactively based on their research themes and abilities to utilize the outcomes in actual teaching situations. 
Class Schedule Lesson1: Seminar Overview and Objectives
Students will be provided with an overview of the seminar to clarify the objectives.
Lesson2: Fundamental Theories of Mathematics Education (1)
Students are expected to learn fundamental theories of mathematics education through reading literatures of mathematics education and having discussions to deepen understanding.
Lesson3: Fundamental Theories of Mathematics Education (2)
Students are expected to learn fundamental theories of mathematics education through reading literatures of mathematics education and having discussions to deepen understanding.
Lesson4: Fundamental Theories of Mathematics Education (3)
Students are expected to learn fundamental theories of mathematics education through reading literatures of mathematics education and having discussions to deepen understanding.
Lesson5: Today’s Challenges of Mathematics Education (1)
Students are expected to deepen understanding of today’s challenges of mathematics education trough reading literatures about mathematics education and having discussions.
Lesson6: Evaluation & Explanation of Report Assignment 1 and Discussion
The instructor will return the report assignment, brief the evaluation, and have a discussion through which students can develop a research plan.
Lesson7: Implementation of Practical Research of Methodology in Mathematics Education (1)
Students will present their work process of their research and have a group discussion, through which they can move forward with their research.

Students will present their work process of their research and have a group discussion, through which they can move forward with their research.

Students are expected to present the results of their efforts for their research and have a group discussion, through which they can summarize the research outcomes.
Lesson12: Summary of Practical Research of Mathematics Education (3)
Students are expected to present the results of their efforts for their research and have a group discussion, through which they can summarize the research outcomes at the conclusion of this course.
Lesson13: Presentations of Practical Research Outcomes of Mathematics Education (1)
Students are expected to present their research outcomes and have a group discussion, through which they can clarify issues and have a better summary of their research outcomes.
Lesson14: Presentations of Practical Research Outcomes of Mathematics Education (2)
Students are expected to present their research outcomes and have a group discussion, through which they can clarify issues and have a better summary of their research outcomes.
Lesson15: Presentations of Practical Research Outcomes of Mathematics Education (3)
Students are expected to present their research outcomes and have a group discussion, through which they can clarify issues, have a better summary of their research outcomes , and complete a final report.

Students will be evaluated based on presentations, group discussions and a report of their research.

Preparation and
Review
Lesson1-5:
Review the seminar overview and clarify the objective. Search for and obtain literatures for reference. Read the literatures, sort out the contents, and clarify questions.
【Report Assignment1】
Identify challenges of mathematics education based on the reference books and think about your graduation research topic.
After Lesson6:
Study the evaluation of your report assignment and develop your research plan based on the discussion.
After Lesson7-12
Integrate the principles and methods of mathematics education and knowledge and skills of the contents, search for literatures and materials for your research, work on your research systematically, summarize the work process and research outcomes, and prepare for your presentation.
【Report Assignment 2】
 Write a draft report on your research.
After Lesson13-15:
Review the Q&A after your research presentation and complete your final report so that you can explore deeper and write a better graduation thesis. 
Requirements Teaching methods of school subject ( mathematics)
It is desirable that students have taken 'Research on Mathematics Education' ( Semester 6). 
Grading Method Students will be evaluated based on presentations & discussions (20%) and report assignments (80%).
Students' ' Comprehensive capabilities & skills 1, 2, & 3' will be evaluated based on report assignments and presentations & discussions.

Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it  
Message This course is a seminar-style course to be offered as a part of graduation research. Students are expected to search for literatures and materials actively and clarify outcomes and issues before making a presentation and having a discussion. Japanese language is mainly used with the materials written in English language.
